Did you restore the database to 1.1.6 state and checked that everything worked ok before attempting to uprade from 1.1.6 to a newer version?

yes, I did, restored both all files and database dump.

I tried to manually upgrade from 1.1.6 to 1.2:

1. Polylang 1.1.6 plugin deactivated via GUI
2. Polylang 1.1.6 folder deleted from /wp-content/plugins
3. Polylang 1.2 folder uploaded to /wp-content/plugins
4. Polylang 1.2 plugin activated via GUI

...but NO INFORMATION was logged into debug.log.

so then - after upgrade - I did the following:

1. in Settings / Languages I added a new language in order to be able to access the other three languages (cs_CZ, sk_SK and en_US)
2. in Settings / Languages I edited Locale of each of the three languages (replaced 'e' with 'en_US' etc.)
3. in a post editing form I tried to update the post language (input 'post_lang_choice') although no update was necessary
4. in the post editing form I tried to enter and save the post translation IDs (but those IDs were NOT saved)
