@Wordwright: How to track down a WordPress problem:

1. Disable all other plugins besides Polylang (if any)
2. Activate standard Twentyelven theme instead of your child theme
3. Resave your Permalinks, which means: Open this page in admin area: "Settings -> Permalinks" and click "Save Changes"
4. Check if the problem still persists
