Permalinks in Polylang : default language title is added in menue links

Dear WP-Community,
I am working on multilingual setup for a website with Polylang. My question concerns the URL-settings.
WordPress-Version 5.3.4
My settings are:
The language is set from content
Hide URL language information for default language
Remove /language/ in pretty permalinks
The general settings on permalinks are set on
postname -> an in: www.example.com/postname

I find it hard to define what the actual problem is. Because it seems to that there are be two problems… but they might be connected.

My default language is German and I want to create an English version of the website.
The first problem is about the menue of my translated language. The menue looks fine, but it connects to the wrong permalinks. For some reason the default language title of the homepage is added in, although it is not part of the homepage permalink. The strangest thing about this is that it is not even the current title of the translated home page. But just: www.example.com/[default-language-homepage-title]-english

E.g. I would like to link to a structure like this: www.example.com/projects. (This is the permalink as set in the post. And it works just fine.)
But instead the menue directs the user to www.example.com/projects/[translated language code]/[default-language-homepage-title]-english/projects/ where, off course, no page is found.
I have already tried to resave and recreate that menue from scratch. It just keeps adding in the homepage’s titel for some reason.

The second problem is about the main page in the translated language. When I enter the permalink as defined on site page (www.example.com/en) I get a redirection error. Neither is the page found when I click on “home” in the menue button (where it should be linked). Nor can the be found when using the strange [default-language-homepage-title]-english thing that is faulsly added in the menue links.

I have no idea what this is about und would be very greatful for any suggestion. Thank you so much in advance!

Polylang with SiteOrigin?

I’ve installed on my website (Sydney free theme) Polylang and Lingotek. The site was built in italian, and it have many pages. Now it’s all messed up! At the beginning there was the Problem with the free version of Lingotek: I have the free version, you can translate 100.000 words and in my site there were more then that. Now my website it’s… almost all in english!
Today I’ve tried to uninstall Lingotek and use only Polylang. But I have other problems: if I translate a page, the translation appears the same in both pages, even if I select Italian or English in the edit page.
I think that there is a problem with my site builder: SiteOrigin. But I’ve read that SiteOrigin is compatible with Polylang..
How can I do? Should I change the site builder? But this could destroy my website….??!?!??
Please help me!

Wonderful!

After 15 years of work with Drupal, now I’m at the second site with WordPress. As a beginner, it’s difficult to front all of the problems and the new tools that you have to use.
I’m working on a multilingual website with SiteOrigin like site builder and Polylang as a multilingual plugin.
After installing Polylang, the site became a mess!
I wrote to the plugin forum and… it was magic! With only a short answer they solve my big big problem! Thanks a lot to SiteOrigin crew, they are great!

Not all jobs are shown due to translation

I have tried to translate my site into English and Esperanto (using Polylang). The matter is, that jobs posted from English version do not appear in the job listing in Esperanto-version and vice versa. So, I actually have two different job dashboards. How can I unite them, in order to see all posted jobs from all languages?
I’d really appreciate if somebody can help. Thank you.

Export only certain language in Polylang

Is there anyway to use the WordPress Export to only export Language Specific Posts together with its language specific Tags and Categories?

When I try to export my posts, all of the languages gets exported. More over, the tags and the categories won’t line up with the languages. For example, when I look at the tags section (after export to the new site), all of the tags and categories’ languages are mixed up in English. So all of the languages on tags and cats have EN and CN languages. The posts are fine where the languages lines up with EN and CN. But the tags and cats are all messed up.

So I want to export the EN first, and then export the CN after. Is there any way to do that? Also, why would the tags and cats won’t align with its assigned language from the previous site?

Is there a way to do this with the export:
Export certain language only

Archives without header image

Hi guys I am using your plugin with great pleasure. it is truly complete and intuitive. But I would have a problem:
I use a theme where the header image is shown in full screen and under the menu at the top. I installed the “Essential Content Types” plugin to create sections: services, jobs etc … This plugin as for wordpress articles also creates archives for each section. Viewing the archives if I use the default language of my wordpress I have no problems, but when I change the language, the foreground image disappears. I contacted the creator of the plugin and the theme (they are the same person) and by creating an administrator account of my site he managed to solve the problem. Analyzing what did the problem was in setting up Polylang to translate the media, in fact I found it disabled, rehabilitating it the problem reappears. Could you help me understand if it is a problem of the theme or of Polylang? Has such a thing ever happened to you? I also translated the images that are displayed in the header, thinking that it was a problem that could not find the translated images, but nothing.

To make you understand better this is the link of the category in Italian (my default language of wordpress)
https://www.yourchefathome.eu/servizi/
This instead in English:
https://www.yourchefathome.eu/en/servizi/
This in Dutch:
https://www.yourchefathome.eu/nl/servizi/
Thanks for any suggestion!

PS. But isn’t there a way to create automatic translations when I upload a media? all the evolved I have to enter the information of the media and add the translations by hand?

Don’t Copy Polylang Taxonomies & Terms

The copy_post_taxonomies function breaks Polylang support, which has relationships to the translated post object. When using Revisionize the term connection breaks on copy to and from.

Maybe adding a filter on the taxonomies call before the foreach loop so a developer can filter certain taxonomies out?

    $taxonomies = get_object_taxonomies($post->post_type);

Multi language support

“Multi language support” does not mean that is compatible e.g. with Polylang, right? The names of the months are only available in one language for me.

I use polylang and have posts in two languages. I created a page with a posts block using the gutenberg editor but the block shows me posts in all languages, only allowing me to filter by category. Is there any way I can only show posts in a given language in this block? Or are gutenberg blocks simply not compatible with polylang?

get_cat_ID returns 0 if used with Polylang

$

Hi everyone. I’ve just started to use WordPress and am working on my own theme. Since my page has to support multiple languages I’ve decided to use the Polylang plugin. Additionally I’ve added a category and its translation in the backend. Let’s call the category names “Services” (for English) and “Dienstleistungen” (for German) So far, so good.

Now I want to write a function do_something($catname) that generates some HTML code based on the given category and current language. Thus it’s called like do_something("services") in the theme (thus hardcoded parameter) and should use the correct translated category in its logic.

For that purpose I’ve wanted to use get_cat_ID($catname) or get_term_by('name', $catname, 'category') to get the actual ID and get the translated category ID by calling pll_get_term($cat_term_ID). If the page language is English everything works fine, both get_cat_ID and get_term_by return the correct ID for the parameter “services”. As soon as I switch to German (with Polylang’s Language switcher), both return 0 resp. null. Thus I have no chance to call pll_get_term if the language is switched to something different than English. Maybe I am missing something or have a wrong understanding of these functions. For me it isn’t clear why something like get_cat_ID("services") doesn’t work if the page is set to another language.

How to translate the Invoice or delivery notes to customer’s language?

Hi,

I have a WooCommerce store that uses Polylang for translating the store to a different language (Fnglish).

When a customer makes an order and I print the Invoice or Delivery notes they are in the default language of my site (Finnish) even if the order was made in English.
Polylang recognizes the language in which the order was made and displays it next to the order in the Orders listing page.

Where do the strings like: shipping address, product, price, total etc. come from?
Polylang’s String translation doesn’t detect these strings and I don’t know how to translate them.

Can you make your plugin compatible with Polylang or advice me how to translate the strings on the delivery notes and invoice so they appear correctly in the language of the order?

So in spanish i can see the “Hecho en Ibiza” but when i switch to the English page I can’t choose “Original from Ibiza” and my products are not showing.

I’ve done the translation of tags using :
Polylang connect for Elementor & I have Elementor Pro.

All plugins are up to date…
