Dear WP-Community,
I am working on multilingual setup for a website with Polylang. My question concerns the URL-settings.
WordPress-Version 5.3.4
My settings are:
The language is set from content
Hide URL language information for default language
Remove /language/ in pretty permalinks
The general settings on permalinks are set on
postname -> an in: www.example.com/postname
I find it hard to define what the actual problem is. Because it seems to that there are be two problems… but they might be connected.
My default language is German and I want to create an English version of the website.
The first problem is about the menue of my translated language. The menue looks fine, but it connects to the wrong permalinks. For some reason the default language title of the homepage is added in, although it is not part of the homepage permalink. The strangest thing about this is that it is not even the current title of the translated home page. But just: www.example.com/[default-language-homepage-title]-english
E.g. I would like to link to a structure like this: www.example.com/projects. (This is the permalink as set in the post. And it works just fine.)
But instead the menue directs the user to www.example.com/projects/[translated language code]/[default-language-homepage-title]-english/projects/ where, off course, no page is found.
I have already tried to resave and recreate that menue from scratch. It just keeps adding in the homepage’s titel for some reason.
The second problem is about the main page in the translated language. When I enter the permalink as defined on site page (www.example.com/en) I get a redirection error. Neither is the page found when I click on “home” in the menue button (where it should be linked). Nor can the be found when using the strange [default-language-homepage-title]-english thing that is faulsly added in the menue links.
I have no idea what this is about und would be very greatful for any suggestion. Thank you so much in advance!
